Adults swimming with floats

According to research from Swim England, 1 in 5 adults can’t swim.

If you’re one of them, could now be the time to learn this valuable skill?

We know there are many benefits of learning to swim at a young age – but at Swim2Swim, we believe it’s never too late to learn to swim or improve your technique!

As well as being a good full body, low-impact workout, swimming is also good for overall well-being; it has been reported that regular swimming can lower stress levels, reduce anxiety and depression, and improve your sleep patterns. What’s more, you only need to go for a light swim to feel the mental benefits of swimming – you certainly don’t need to be an Olympic swimmer!

So, if you’re searching for fun, friendly adult swimming lessons near you, don’t hesitate to contact our team to start your journey into the water today. You can do this!

Adult lessons are available on a 121 basis.

A few kind words from our adult swimmers:

Daisy Webb:

Big thanks to the Swim 2 Swim team! Amazing customer service. Make you feel very comfortable and relaxed. Given my partner the confidence to get in water! Nigel is great! Thankyou!

Michael Ball:

Incredible – what more can i say. My most sincere thanks to Richard for his patience and understanding for teaching a very apprehensive sixty something male, who initially clung onto the side replicating a white-knuckle ride, to first submerge my face and then after only ten lessons, perform front crawl for almost a whole length. The most amazing ongoing experience, at an impressive pool with first class facilities. I would most definitely recommend Swim 2 Swim to all ages!

Val Guglielmi:

I was born in the late 1940’s. In those days there was no provision for swimming at school and no pool nearby.

My children both learnt to swim, and my grandchildren have all learnt with lessons by Swim2Swim. I decided that I ought to learn so I could join in when we are on holiday with them, now I have retired. I was very apprehensive and frightened of the water but with Richard’s patience he has given me the confidence to go under the water and to let go of the side of the pool.

I never thought I would be able to do it and of course as I am getting older the exercise is good for me, I am looking forward one day to surprising my family.

Benefits of Swimming for Babies

Mother and child swimming

It is not unusual for parents to feel a little nervous when they first start swimming with their babies and young toddlers, here at swim2swim we can answer any questions or concerns you may have and will support you, your babies and little toddlers during each class.

Our adult and child classes are designed to help build water confidence as well as developing essential water safety skills, we practise these skills from the very first lessons.  We share ideas and some teaching skills with parents so they can be practise … often in the bath!

There are many benefits of learning to swim at a young age, here are our favourites

First and foremost, it has to be, water safety and water confidence – the parents benefit as much as the babies and toddlers.

Precious time with you and your baby, no interruptions, just you and them, skin to skin in the water.  It promotes bonding and enhances trust.  Swimming remains one of the best loved family activities so these early experiences can set the scene for family swimming sessions as they grow up.

Swimming helps to improve coordination and balance, as your baby’s body is supported by water, the main focus for them is on maintaining balance. It has been reported that on the whole babies who swim have a much better balance out of the pool.

Swimming helps to build muscles and strengthens your baby on the inside too.  As well as working and strengthening their muscles and joints while swimming, it also improves the strength of their heart and lungs and helps to develop their brain.

Swimming promotes well-being.  It can help improve their sleeping pattern – it doesn’t guarantee they will sleep through the night every night (sorry!) however the extra exercise can lead to improved sleep and increased appetite.  The gentle exercise and warm water can help relax the baby too.

The classes combine structure and fun which helps develop their learning skills too, you can read more about this here https://swim2swim.com/some-of-the-benefits-of-learning-to-swim-from-an-early-age

Some of the benefits of learning to swim from an early age

“Children who participate in early years swimming appear to be achieving many milestones earlier than the normal population”

One of the things we love about our work is seeing the progress our little swimmers make. We are thrilled to be part of their journey from attending classes as babies with mummy or daddy, joining the Duckling classes as toddlers independently, leaping in the water with a grin from ear to ear and ultimately developing and mastering the swimming technique.

So, they are water confident and can swim – have you ever considered what other benefits can be gained by learning to swim early?

There have been many reports researching the benefits of learning to swim from an early age. One such report was produced by researchers from the Griffith Institute for Educational Research who surveyed parents of 7000 under-fives from Australia, New Zealand and the US over three years.

The conclusive findings were:

Children who participate in early years swimming appear to be achieving many milestones earlier than the normal population across areas of physical, cognitive and language development – regardless of social background or gender.

Many of these skills are highly valuable for the transition into other learning contexts and will be of considerable benefit for young children as they enter pre-schools and school. It is widely recognised that the early years lay the foundations for learning. It would appear that early years swimming may help develop skills beyond those of swimming and which are of considerable value in formal education.

How fantastic is it to know that in addition to learning to swim, little swimmers are also learning so many other life skills?

Private Hire

Two of our pools – the Britannia Pool and the Primrose Pool – can be hired out to individuals, families, or small groups of swimmers.

Both these private pools offer spacious changing areas, baby changing facilities, and onsite parking. These facilities also boast underfloor heating systems to keep you and your friends or family warm all year round. Pool temperatures are maintained in the region of 31 degrees for your comfort.

The maximum number of people allowed in the pool at any one time is 12, including children.

Why hire a swimming pool in Essex?

If you love swimming but hate having to navigate the crowds at bigger facilities, hiring a swimming pool for private use could be the perfect option!

You will have exclusive use of our facilities, which means you won’t need to share the pool or the changing areas with strangers during your time with us. Forget searching for change for the lockers or having to interrupt your relaxing swim by dodging other guests as they make their way up and down the pool – simply enjoy relaxing and having fun with your own friends and family, at your own pace, and in your own time.

Hiring your own private swimming pool is also a great way to encourage children and younger members of your family to practice their technique while they’re learning or keep swimming long after they have achieved their awards.

If you hire our pools regularly, we won’t need to send a member of staff to accompany you throughout your session (as long as two adults are present). One of our team will need to be present for one-off bookings to allow access to the pool.

Contact us for more information on our regular private hire opportunities. If you’d like to book a pool for a one-off occasion, please use the button below.
